Family Photo

Here is our most recent family photo in the Square outside our apartment.

First Attempt

I know what you're thinking, the world really needs another blog. Well, here it is. This is Jon's blog, not merely the ever-present family Christmas letter (hat tip: Nickersons), although it may be that as well, but also my thoughts on life and ministry.

The Fifth Act is NT Wright's phrase (from an article "How can the Bible be authoritative?") for explaining our place in salvation history and its relation to the authority of scripture. We are like characters in a Shakespeare play in which the middle of the fifth act has been lost. The scene has already been set (OT and NT). The crisis has already been solved (Jesus' victory). We know the ending (God's victory). And we are called, not to repeat exactly what has been said before, but to know what came before so well that it is reflected in what we do today.
I love the image. Our whole lives are lived in the fifth act.
